Shuttle bus overturns in Kalmykia, as driver falls asleep at wheel

VOLGOGRAD. July 29. KAZINFORM According to the preliminary reports, a shuttle bus overturned in Russia's Kalmykia, as the driver fell asleep behind the wheel, a source in the republican traffic police department told Itar-Tass on Wednesday, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

"The road accident occurred at 7.20 a.m. Moscow time in the Tselinnaya district of Kalmykia on the Elista-Volgograd highway 40 kilometers of Elista. The two-deck bus overturned. A young girl was killed, five passengers were injured in the road accident," the source said.

The doctors are giving the urgent aid to the injured people; the rescuers are raising the bus by crane. A joint operative group of road policemen, emergency workers and investigators are working at the accident site.

The bus was carrying 28 passengers, according to the preliminary reports of the southern regional emergencies center.

It is already the third road accident with casualties in a bus for the last ten days. A Mercedes bus skidded off the road and overturned outside Novosibirsk overnight to July 20. Eight passengers died and more than 30 people were injured.
