Senate Speaker meets British Vice Minister for Europe

ANA.  September 8. KAZINFORM Chairman of the Senate Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev has met with British Vice Minister for Europe Baroness Glynnis Kinnock in Astana today, Kazinform cites the Senate's press service.

The parties exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Great Britain and focused on Kazakhstan's forthcoming chairmanship in the OSCE in 2010, development of the legal mechanisms of protection of human rights, children's and women's rights.

Having noted importance of the meeting the Senate Speaker highlighted topicality of the issues discussed and informed the British Vice Minister of the Senate's work in guaranteeing and protection of human rights.

"Kazakhstan is open for discussing the issues regarding this sphere. We support the efforts of the non-governmental organizations on development of mechanisms in this directions", the Speaker said.

Touching upon Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship in 2010 K. Tokayev noted that our country fully realized its responsibility and functions in this Organization.

"We agree with the OSCE agenda and we are ready to discuss urgent problems connected with ensuring non-proliferation of the nuclear weapons, illegal migration, traffic in drugs and people", K. Tokayev noted.

"In whole, chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE will be interesting and dynamic", the Speaker resumed.

Being Vice Chairman of the OSCE PA Tokayev highly appraised the role of parliamentarians in promotion of the values of the Organization, positive influence on the processes occurring in the area of its responsibility.

G. Kinnock in turn noted Kazakhstan's achievements in the field of human rights protection and expressed confidence in its successful chairmanship in the OSCE.

According to the Diplomat, Parliament  plays a key role in the oncoming process therefore the Kazakh Speaker's vision of the problem proves Kazakhstan's readiness to chair the Organization.
