Senate Speaker Kairat Mami met with Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran

ROME. February 7. KAZINFORM The visit of the outstanding man of peace Pope John Paul II to Astana in 2001 contributed to the strengthening of relations between Kazakhstan and Vatican City.

Kairat Mami, Speaker of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament - Head of Secretariat of the Congress of World and Traditional Religions' Leaders said it at a meeting with Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in Rome.

According to him, Kazakhstan and Vatican enjoy warm and friendly relations.

"The Vatican City State is a strategic partner for Kazakhstan. We have recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations, 20 years of constructive and sustained interaction based on mutual respect and full confidence," K.Mami added.

He emphasized that a strong impetus to bilateral relations was also given by the official visit of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the Vatican in November 2009.

As reported earlier, Chairman of the Senate Kairat Mami is on a working visit to the Vatican City State within the framework of the 10th anniversary of the initiative to convene the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
