Semirechye agricultural fair kicks off in Astana

The fair offers an abundance of fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, confectionery. More than 50 kinds of agricultural products to the amount of KZT 177.2 million are available at prices by 15-20 percent lower than in the wholesale and community markets of Astana.

The program of the holiday also includes an apple festival that will be held in front of "Zhastar" Palace. Almaty is believed to be the homeland of all apples. Malus sieversii, a wild apple native to the Dzungarian Alatau Mountains is the sole ancestor of most cultivars of the domesticated apple.

On the instruction of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev the region is implementing the very important project on rehabilitation of orchards and revival of the popular Aport apples. The first stage of the project was implemented by "Alma Prodex" LLP. The project incorporates best practices in planting highly intensive gardens in Italy, the USA, Holland and Turkey, with the use of disease-free planting material.

Visitors of the fair will enjoy the performances of the folk ensemble of the regional philharmonic named after Suyunbai and Almaty stage stars.
