SCO Security Council chiefs to meet in Moscow

MOSCOW. KAZINFORM - The programme of military interaction between the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states is on the agenda of a meeting on Tuesday of the Security Council Secretaries of SCO, which brings together Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The 10th annual meeting in Moscow is also attended by representatives of observer countries - Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan.

"It is planned to discuss security issues in the SCO space, with taking into account the evolving situation in the regions adjacent to the organisation's member states," the press service of the Russian Security Council reported. On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Security Council Secretaries of the CSO members and observers. He, in particular, highlighted a number of issues on the agenda related to the improvement of the instruments of cooperation and the fight against terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking. Putin hopes that the SCO Security Council Secretaries' meeting will work out recommendations for the upcoming SCO summit in Russia's Bashkortostan republic (in the Volga Federal District) in order to use the developed material for further decision making in the field of security. SCO was founded in 2001. The organisation's summit due in Ufa, Bashkortostan, on July 8-10 is expected to adopt a comprehensive programme of the organisation's development until 2025, TASS reports.
