SCO member states should fight religious extremism together - Yermekbayev

MOSCOW. KAZINFORM - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states should closely cooperate in counteraction to religious extremism and terrorism, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Assistant to President Nurlan Yermekbayev said at the meeting of the Security Council Secretaries of SCO in Moscow on Tuesday.
In his speech Mr Yermekbayev paid utmost attention to the necessity of closer cooperation between the SCO member states in fight against those negative phenomena. According to him, fight against extremism and terrorism is a pressing issue for many countries these days.
The meeting mainly focused on security issues in the SCO space.
The SCO brings together Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The 10th annual meeting in Moscow was also attended by representatives of observer countries - Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan.
