SCO intends to create Media Collaboration Forum
According to the plan the forum should be an "open platform" for media mutual acitivity of member countries, observer countries and dialogue partners of the SCO. The Forum should adhere to "Shanghai Spirit", that is, cooperation will be based on "mutual trust, equality and mutual benefit, respect for cultural diversity and pursuit of common development." The main objective of the institution is coordination of specific collaboration projects in the field of media. These are projects in the exchange of news information, co-production and broadcast of radio and television programs, and mutual activity in the field of new media, trainings, etc.
The first forum is to be conducted in Beijing in 2014.
The initiative was supported by the Assistant Secretary General of the SCO Aziz Nosirov. "A permanent mechanism of interaction between the media will assist to increase awareness of the peoples of the member countries of the SCO", he said.
Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry of Eurasia Fantsyu Su said that establishing the forum will be an important contribution to strengthening cultural cooperation of the SCO. "China supports the initiative. Such a mechanism will allow the media to provide unbiased information about the SCO member countries around the world, " said a Chinese diplomat.
SCO is regional international organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The conference was attended by representatives of Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.
