SCO Foreign Ministers meeting in Tashkent: Ensuring stability in CA - priority task of SCO in security sphere

TASHKENT. May 22. KAZINFORM /Rassul Bakhamov/ Strengthening stability in Central Asia remains a priority task of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in security sphere, the participants of the sitting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council stated.

The ministers confirmed the intention to expand interaction in such spheres as joint countering terrorism, separatism and extremism, illegal drug-traffic and organized transnational crime.
The participants also expressed concern over the situation in Afghanistan. In this view, the SCO member states confirmed the leading role of the UN in coordination of the efforts of the international community in regulation of the Afghan problem.
The SCO member countries consider that solution of the Afghan problem through military actions is impossible and stand for promotion of the dialogue under the UN aegis with the participation of Afghan people in formation of the IRA as a peaceful and stable country.
