Pal Sarkozy, 82, made the remarks to the Tuesday edition of German Bild newspaper. "I'm glad to be having a grandchild," he said, adding that he expected a daughter as "beautiful as Carla."

During a televised interview by French private channel TF1 with Bruni on Monday, the France's 43-year-old first lady didn't give any clear confirmation on her physical situation and tactically hedged the presenter's congratulations at the end of the interview.

Speculation of her pregnancy is spreading wildly since the beginning of this month, especially after she cancelled a show-up on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival for her first movie "Midnight in Paris."

Some reports said the first couple of France are expecting a twin, however, they themselves issued no confirmation on any assumptions so far.

An ex-top model and then pop singer, Bruni-Sarkozy already has a son before married to Sarkozy in February 2008. Sarkozy has three sons from two previous marriages; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
