SAMEKE KHAN (Shakhmukhamed khan) (date of birth unknown – near 1738) – a khan of the Middle zhuz (1724-1738), son of Tauke khan.
Sameke?s Horde was located in Turkestan. In the internal policy he strove for union of the tribes of the Middle zhuz, in external ? struggled against invading actions of the Dzungars and Mid-Asian khanates.
In 1723 Sameke and Abilkhair khan stood up together against the Volga Kalmyks. In 1726 he made a second large campaign to the Small Kalmyk Horde.
Sameke khan looked for the Russian support in the struggle against internal and external enemies. On December 15, 1731 he negotiated with A.Tevkelev for establishment of ties with Russia.
Sameke khan went down in history as a fighter for the independence of his people.
