S. Ordzhonikidze: Inauguration of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation Day is noble initiative

ASTANA. July 2. KAZINFORM. /Arailym Temirgaliyeva/ The United Nations Organization supports Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative to inaugurate the Day of Renunciation of Nuclear Weapons. Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Under-Secretary-General of the UN, has made it public at the press conference in Astana Palace of Peace and Harmony today.
"Liquidation of nuclear arms is the aim of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The United Nations, the Secretary General and I support the idea to announce August 29 the Day of Renunciation of Nuclear Weapons. To my mind this is quite a noble initiative", S. Ordhonikidze said.
"But for that purpose we need to pass a UN resolution, and need all the member-countries to support this idea", he added.
