S Korea to set up electronic aeronautical information system
According to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, the country is in the process of setting up an Electronic Aeronautical Information Publication (eAIP) system to replace the current system where local and foreign airlines receive information on a paper-based method.
The AIPs include information regarding navigation and flight safety measures over certain airspace, as well as landing and takeoff procedures and configuration of airports, it said.
The ministry added the eAIPs will follow guidelines provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is expected to be applied worldwide starting 2016, as it requires air carriers to obtain all information that could potentially influence aircraft operations in advance.
The new electronic system will enable airlines to quickly share information and increase safety measures while allowing swift updates of flight management systems, it added, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
