"The issue that will be on high demand is biotechnologies. We will turn wood, wood chips and other timber byproducts into biobutanol that is necessary for creating new modern fuel," he said.

The plant will be built in the town of Tulun, the Irkutsk region.

"All over the world biobutanol fuel is blended with petrol and comprises from 10 percent to 15 percent. First of all, this allows to increase the blending octane value and second, to cut CO2 emissions. We still have no such practice in Russia," Chemezov said.

The corporation's chief noted that Brazil and several European countries make biofuel from byproducts of sugar cane, corn and rapeseed; Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
