Russian police seize 7 tons of sturgeon

KHABAROVSK. January 11. KAZINFORM Police in Russia's Far East have seized almost 7 tons of sturgeon, the fishing of which is banned under Russian law, a Khabarovsk Territory police spokesman said on Monday, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
The fish, which are prized for their caviar, were discovered on Saturday in the vicinity of a house in of Podgornoye.
"During a search, 317 fish weighing more than 6.9 tons were found and seized," the spokesman said.
The scale of the seizure suggests the sturgeon were fished commercially, and an investigation is underway, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
