Russian language back to formal use in Ukraine's Dnepropetrovsk region

DNEPROPETROVSK. August 18. KAZINFORM The Russian language is back to use in everyday business affairs, science and education in Ukraine's industrialized Dnepropetrovsk Region in the capacity of the regional language under a decision the regional legislature voted for on Friday.

Of the 117 deputies registered at the session 109 voted for awarding this status to the Russian language. The resolution advises the rural and city governments to consider this issue and to make a decision on using Russian as a regional language in business and office work, Itar-Tass reports.

However, national parliament member from the Batkivshchina party, Liliya Grinevich, said on television on the eve of the voting the restoration of Russian language instruction at colleges and universities will be a disincentive to studying Ukrainian at school.
