Russia not to support UN resolution on Syria: Medvedev

MOSCOW. May 18. KAZINFORM Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that Russia would not support a UN Security Council resolution on Syria; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"I will not support such a resolution" if it is similar to the one on Libya, Medvedev told a news conference.

However, the president did not say whether Russia would veto a proposed resolution.

Meanwhile, Medvedev stressed that Moscow opposes foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.

He said that Syrian President Bashar Assad must be given a chance to fulfill his reform promises in the country.

Russia abstained when the UN Security Council voted on Resolution 1973 that authorized air strikes to protect Libyan civilians against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
