Russia not to participate in North Africa operations

MOSCOW. April 6. KAZINFORM Russian President Dmitry Medvedev confirmed on Wednesday that Russia would not take part in military operations to settle the situation in North Africa; however, it will abide by the decisions taken by the UN Security Council; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

Medvedev said so at a meeting with top military officials on the occasion of their new appointments.

The head of state noted that the military factor does not lose its significance in the modern world. "Regrettably, armed conflicts have involved not only individual countries recently, but parts of whole continents and whole regions. The latest example is the appearance of the so-called instability arc in North Africa and the Middle East," he said.

He stated that Russia was taking a responsible position. "We're fulfilling the international commitments we took within the framework of UN Security Council decisions and resolutions; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
