Russia lifts ban from import of EU vegetables - Onishchenko
"As a result of negotiations held yesterday evening and this afternoon, the EU Commission fully accepted the conditions that Russia voiced at the beginning of June this year," he said.
"We have negotiated the parameters of a special certificate, which must state the place of origin of the product, the guarantees of the competent authority and laboratory confirmation that the consignment of the product does not contain pathogenic bacilli," explained Onishchenko.
According to the head of Rospotrebnadzor, the system will look like this: those providers who wish to supply products to the Russian market will have to fill in the certificate, then the customs authorities will decide whether to let the product cross the border of Russia.
In addition, as Onishchenko said, "we must get from the European Commission a list of suppliers, and a list of laboratories and competent authorities."
At the moment, as the head of Rospotrebnadzor said, Russia has no such data. About the period this provision will be effective, Gennady Onishchenko, said: "The regimen will operate until the outbreak of the disease in the EU is over, there are no new cases and the maximum incubation period of ten days has expired."
Currently, cases of intestinal infection that caused the ban on imported vegetables have been registered in 14 countries. The overwhelming number of cases was in Germany. In general, since the outbreak of the disease on April 22 more than 3,600 cases have been recorded.
