Rescuers save about 200 people trapped in snowdrifts in N Kazakhstan

On Wednesday, December 26, North Kazakhstan region shut down roads for all types of vehicles in all directions due to snowstorm. Despite this, the emergency services had to rescue desperate drivers and their passengers trapped in snowdrifts on the roads in Zhambyl, Yessil, Kyzylzhar, Timiryazev and Musrepov districts. 94 people, including five children, were rescued, Kazinform News Agency reports.

104 people were evacuated and accommodated in warming centres in Shal Akyn, Yessil, Mamlyut, Magzhan Zhumabayev districts. All of them were provided with hot meals.

The rescuers responded to more than 1,500 calls within the last 24 hours.
