Qatar offers Kazakhstan to create a joint investment fund

During a meeting with Asset Issekeshev, the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies, organized by the «Kaznex Invest» agency at the end of the VI Astana Economic Forum, Yousef Hussain Kamal, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Qatar State, made a proposal to establish a joint investment fund with equal contributions from each side amounting to USD $ 500 million.

Asset Issekeshev also expressed readiness to provide all the needed support and assistance on the investment cooperation. In this case, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed to the possibility of investing in the tourism industry of Kazakhstan. A. Issekeshev proposed to interact with the Kazakhstan Development Bank on the establishment of a joint Kazakh-Qatari investment fund.

Yousef Hussain Kamal also offered to open an international connection between Qatar and Kazakhstan, in particular, between Doha and Astana or Almaty. The issue concerns direct flights of the state airline called Qatar Airways. The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Qatar state said that in spite of a relatively small Qatar population (about 300 thousand), total number of passengers of the airlines are amounting to 20 million people a year. Qatar Airways have flights to more than 80 international destinations in the world and it is among the list of air carriers having the highest five-star rating.

The issue of the direct flights opening has already been discussed earlier during the visits of A. Issekeshev to Qatar. The Deputy Prime - Minister expressed willingness to consider the proposal of Qatar.
