Putin ratifies treaty on Armenia’s accession to EEU

The Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh presidents will meet in the Kremlin on Tuesday for final consultations before the beginning of work of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), according to TASS. "It will be a concluding meeting in the process of formation of the EEU. The largest union with the consumer market volume of more than 170 people will begin working in the post-Soviet space in a few days. Its functioning will be based on standards and principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and ensure free movement of goods, services, capitals and workforce," Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said. The EEU begins working on January 1, 2015. The Armenian and Kyrgyz presidents will also participate in the summit. Armenia, which has ratified all the required documents, will become a full member of the union on January 2. As for Kyrgyzstan, preparations to sign an agreement on its accession to the EEU are in the concluding phase. The country is expected to join the union on May 1, 2015.
