ANA. July 5. KAZINFORM /Rizvana Sadykova/ The III Congress of Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions finished its work in Astana on July 2. 77 delegations from 35 countries took part in it. His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France delivering his speech said the following: "I would like to thank His Excellency Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the invitation to participate in this important event. I am sure that we all share the same respect and faith in the power of dialogue and it is that very respect that brings us all together as peacemakers. For it is due to the very value that we can gather together and discuss our common problems and fears, in order to find ways to overcome our problems and foster a spirit of reconciliation and mutual trust, not only amongst ourselves, nut also amongst our faithful. That is the long-term goal and prospect for us. "

"Since the time of winning back its independence Kazakhstan has achieved significant economic progress. At the time being, development of a transparent and open market-oriented investment climate is of utmost importance. This will allow consolidating the results already achieved by Kazakhstan and will set a palmary example for other countries of Central Asia... I know that British companies appreciate their investments into Kazakhstan economy and are searching for new investment opportunities".

Mikhail Gorbachev, ex-President of the USSR:

"President Nazarbayev and his proponents reached the decision to renounce the nuclear arsenal and turn Kazakhstan into a non-nuclear power under tough conditions, in the times of major turning points in the history of post-Soviet states. Kazakhstan leadership had to deal with criticism and lack of understanding. But relying on the people's will, President Nazarbayev took a step which can be considered as a significant contribution to nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation regimes maintenance, to global security. His act has set an example of responsibility and courage to be followed by other leaders when addressing large-scaled problems of great importance to international security".

Antonio Martins da Cruz, OSCE Chairman-in-Office (2001-2003), Portugal's Minister of Foreign Affairs:

"I had an opportunity to pass on my compliments to President with successful implementation of economic and political reforms. Kazakhstan is a paragon of interethnic peace and national accord. For the last 10 years Kazakhstan has been exerting great efforts and attained positive results in political dimension. Approaches to regional cooperation proposed by Kazakhstan are of special importance".
