Production units, wholesale facilities and warehouses must be moved outside Almaty limits - President

ASTANA. May 12. KAZINFORM Today following the conference in Almaty President Nursultan Nazarbayev charged the Government, the akimats of Almaty city and Almaty region to consider and adopt a Comprehensive plan on development of the transport system of the city and adjusting territories, Kazinform has learnt from the Presidential press service.

According to the President, Almaty turns into a large transport-logistics center. "Cargo and passenger transportation increases day by day. As soon as Zhetygen-Khorgos railroad section is put into commission and Western China-Western Europe highway is reconstructed, this traffic flow will increase further", N. Nazarbayev said.

"About 1 mln transport vehicles move around the city every day. 400 thousand of them are non-resident ones. Traffic jams have already become commonplace in the city", the President noted and added that this problem must be studied and solved with consideration of the experience of the world's largest cities.

The President urged necessity of completion of construction of the Eastern bypass road and Big Almaty ring road (BAKAD). Development of high-speed suburban public transport to Kaskelen, Kapshagay and Yessik must be in spotlight, the Head of State stressed.

Besides, as N. Nazarbayev noted, production units, wholesale facilities and warehouses must be moved outside the city limits, "since they paralyze traffic at the entrance to Almaty".
