Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan discuss security in CA region

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Today, President of Kazakhstan has met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev in Almaty, the Akorda's press service reports.

At the meeting, the leaders of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan mainly focused on the ways to strengthen the ongoing cooperation in commercial and economic, investment, energy, and cultural spheres. Nursultan Nazarbayev and Almazbek Atambayev also touched upon the bilateral interaction within various integration associations in the Eurasian space. The President of Kazakhstan underscored the importance of such negotiations that, in his words, affect the future economic development of the two nations. "Compared to 2011, the Kazakh-Kyrgyz sales turnover increased by 41%, exceeding $1 billion. Over the period of independence, Kazakhstan invested more than $1 billion into Kyrgyz economy. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will discuss all directions of cooperation at the upcoming intergovernmental commission and the session of the Supreme Intergovernmental Council," President Nazarbayev said. The Kyrgyz President, in turn, thanked his colleague for the meeting, stressing that Kazakhstan is the Central Asian leader in terms of socioeconomic indicators and ensuring peace and stability in the region. In addition, the sides exchanged views on the international agenda, including the state of security in the region.
