President Tokayev backs China's Global AI Governance Initiative
Addressing the Boao Forum for Asia plenary session today, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke on food security problem in the world and in Central Asia, as well as cooperation with China in artificial intelligence sphere, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Akorda press service.
He said that almost a third of the world's population remains food insecure.
“Kazakhstan as a leading wheat producer in Central Asia, intends to use its agricultural potential to ensure global food stability. Together, we must strengthen international cooperation by creating targeted programs, joint agro-innovation centers and transfer of innovative technologies,” the Kazakh President said.
He pointed out strategic importance of the expansion of transit and transport cooperation between Asian countries.
"It is crucial to step up our efforts to develop both existing and new transport routes, which include the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, or the so-called Middle Corridor, which effectively ensures supply chains between Asia and Europe. Last year, the volume of freight transportation along this route doubled and amounted to 3 million tons. We expect this figure will reach 10 million tons in the nearest years. At the same time, Kazakhstan is ready to cooperate with its neighboring countries in the development of the North-South corridor,” he emphasized.
The Kazakh President believes it is important to strengthen the technological cooperation, namely in the field of artificial intelligence to ensure sustainable global economic growth. In this context, he backed China’s Global AI Governance Initiative.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated Kazakhstan’s interest in cooperation with the leading Asian technological giants in implementation of joint innovative IT-projects.
As reported, the President of Kazakhstan arrived in China to participate in the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia held annually in Boao, Hainan province. This year’s edition is held under the motto “Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities.”
