President Nazarbayev to open CICA jubilee session in Astana

President Nazarbayev proposed the idea of convening the CICA for the first time on October 5, 1992, at the 47th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Head of State will open the jubilee session in Astana. The Jubilee Declaration is expected to be signed after the event. It will give a new impetus to CICA efforts, according to the Kazakh MFA official spokesman Altai Abibullayev.

The event is to bring together foreign ministers of eight countries and heads of 14 international organizations. Yerzhan Kazykhanov, Foreign Affairs Minister of Kazakhstan, is set to meet his colleagues from different countries within the session.

Participants will exchange their views on current topics, in particular, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan situation, non-proliferation issues, combating transnational crime, as well as the priorities of economic cooperation within the CICA.

Today the CICA includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Palestine, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Korea. The United States, Japan, Ukraine, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and the United Nations, the Arab League and the OSCE have observer status.
