President: Main issue of energy cooperation between China and Kazakhstan - nuclear energy

BEIJING. February 22. KAZINFORM /Ruslan Suleimenov/ The main issue of development of energy cooperation between the two countries is nuclear energy. Kazakhstan has signed an agreement with Chinese companies on supply of 55 thousand tons of uranium that is 40 percent of the needs of China's nuclear power plants. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said it today in Beijing during the working breakfast with representatives of business community of China.

"We would like to come to an agreement on building a complete cycle ranging from uranium enrichment and processing to assembly of fuel units in Kazakhstan to supply them then to China," N. Nazarabyev said.

As the President noted there were more than 1 000 joint enterprises operating in Kazakhstan. The first point of our relation is energy cooperation, 20 percent of Kazakhstan's oil is extracted by Chinese companies. 'West Kazakhstan - West China' oil pipeline and 'Turkmenistan - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - China' pipeline were put into operation. "Now we are building our own pipeline from the Caspian Sea to the pipeline to China, it is the significant supply line and pact of cooperation between our countries in the field of energy," the Head of State noted.
