President Hu commends China's ties with Central Asia nations

BEIJING. June 6. KAZINFORM President Hu Jintao said in a written interview with media organizations from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states that relations between China and central Asian countries have seen fruitful achievements and increased mutual trust.

The interview was conducted prior to the opening of the 12th meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO, which will take place over Wednesday and Thursday in Beijing.

The SCO is made up of China, Russia and the four central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Hu said the four central Asian countries are not only SCO members, but also neighbors and important cooperation partners of China, adding this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the four countries.

Over the last 20 years, China and the four nations have adhered to the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment, mutual benefit and common development, as well as established a high degree of political mutual trust and a sound mechanism for high-level cooperation, Hu said.

Fruitful achievements have been made in cooperation concerning the fields of security, cultural exchanges and the handling of regional and international issues, Hu said.

The SCO summit will provide a new opportunity for China and the four countries to establish more consolidated relations and wider development prospects, the president said, Kazinform has learnt from Xinhua.
