President held working session on animal husbandry development

ASTANA. January 12. KAZINFORM Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has chaired today a working session concerning the urgent issues of animal husbandry development.

Prime Minister Karim Massimov, First Vice Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev, Aide to the President of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister of Agriculture Akhylbek Kurishbayev and Chairman of KazAgro JSC Asylzhan Mamytbekov participated in the meeting, Kazinform refers to the Presidential press service.

The meeting focused on the issues of further development of animal husbandry and the situation in the country's agrarian sector.

In 2010 the country gathered 12.2 mln tons of gain. Gross yield of oilseeds made 775.5 thousand tons and vegetables - 2.6 mln tons. In 2010 meat production in Kazakhstan made 1.4 mln tons, milk - 5.1 mln tons, eggs - 3 432.5 mln pieces and fur - 35.8 thousand tons. The number of head of all types of livestock and poultry was as following: cattle - 6.5 mln; sheep and goats - 19.0 mln; horses - 1.56 mln; camels - 164.9 thousand; poultry - 34.8 mln; pigs - 1.56 mln.

The major goal of development of livestock breeding in Kazakhstan is full satisfaction of the domestic demand in animal products as well as realization of its export potential. This goal can be achieved due to improvement of breeding and productive qualities of the existing livestock. Taking into account the measures taken in this direction, the total number of pedigree cattle head in Kazakhstan is expected to rise twofold by 2015 and fourfold by 2020. This will allow providing domestic markets with beef and enhancement of the country's export potential. Alongside, export of beef by 2013 is to make about 13 thousand tons and 83 thousand tons - by 2020.

Following the meeting, the President gave certain tasks.
