Preliminary results show new Kyrgyz constitution approved

BISHKEK. June 28. KAZINFORM More than half of voters in Kyrgyzstan's referendum on a new constitution on Sunday voted to approve the document, the Central Election Commission reported in preliminary results published on its website, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
A simple majority of 50 percent plus one vote is required for the referendum to be approved.
With 65 percent of the 2,319 precincts reporting, preliminary results showed that 1,143,298 people had voted to approve the new constitution.
According to the CEC, turnout was 69.47 percent of eligible voters, or 1,922,295 people, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru
