Powers of Vice President not to end after presidential elections in Kazakhstan

Kazakh Justice Minister Yerlan Sarsembayev clarified the rules regarding the termination of the powers of a Vice President during a joint session of the both Chambers of the Parliament, Qazinform News Agency reports.

He said the institution of Vice President was introduced to ensure stability and continuity in the state governance system.

According to Sarsembayev, the Vice President does not head an independent state body but rather represents the President.

Therefore, there is no automatic termination of the powers of the Vice President when a new President is elected.

Earlier the deputies of the Parliament approved in the first reading the draft Constitutional Law “On the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
