Powerlifting is my kind of sport, says the only representative of Kostanay region at 2024 Paralympics in Paris
Tursynbai Kabyl is the only athlete from Kostanay region to represent Team Kazakhstan at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
Team Kazakhstan made up of 32 athletes is set to vie in eight sports at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. Among them is multiple winner Tursynbai, who will represent Kazakhstan in the 45kg para powerlifting event.
I’ve been training since November 2015. Being engaged in different sports, I knew that there were no prospects and feeling that they were mine. When I came to the gym, I felt this thrill and came to realize that I was on the right path and that I should achieve results in this sport, says the athlete.
A year later, Tursynbai claimed the title of an absolute champion at the Children of Asian international sports games paving her way for a winning streak on the global arena.
So, Tursynbai came first at the 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Astana. In 2023, she became the silver medalist of the Asian Para Games in China.
The Kazakhstani para powerlifter is trained under the direction of Dmitry Tsarenko, who pioneered para powerlifting coaching in the region.
The road to the Paralympics took nine years. The World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Georgia was pivotal, as I did my utmost to win the Paralympics berth, says Tursynbai.
The athlete believes that thanks to a dose of charge and motivation she takes from herself, family members and coaches she is going to win.
The 2024 Summer Paralympic Games are set to take place from August 28 to September 8 in Paris.
