Powerful typhoon hits Tokyo as toll reaches 1 dead, 6 missing

TOKYO. KAZINFORM A powerful typhoon hit the Tokyo metropolitan area Monday after making landfall in central Japan earlier in the day, bringing heavy rain and strong winds across wide areas of the country, leaving at least one dead and six missing.
Typhoon Phanfone, this year's 18th typhoon, headed out to sea and is expected to weaken to an extratropical depression off Japan's northern Pacific coast later in the day, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. A total of 39 people in 17 prefectures were injured, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, Kyodo reports.
