Powerful cyclone approaches Kamchatka with gale and rains
An official at the Kamchatka hydrometeo center has told Itar-Tass that the atmospheric whirlwind is now felt most strongly on the south-eastern coast of the Peninsula. Gusts of wind at a velocity of 25 metres per second, accopanied with heavy raining, are observed there.
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in particular, wind velocity mounts up to 18 m/sec with a heavy rainfall. Elementary school classes in the city have been cancelled, the municipal Education Department announced, Itar-Tass reports.
The press service of the Kamchatka center of the RME issued a warning that adverse weather phenomena in Petropovavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Ust-Bolsheretsk, Yelizovo, Sobolevo, and in Milkovo in the south, will keep on until Monday evening. Tourist groups, who are on itineraries, hunters and fishermen have been recommended to stay in inhabited areas, waiting for adverse weather to pass and refraining from rafting downstream and hiking in the mountains.
