PM surveys construction of Astana detention dam

ANA. July 31. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ Prime Minister Karim Massimov has surveyed the progress of construction of Astana's detention dam. Minister of Emergencies Vladimir Bozhko briefed about the facility construction process.
The project is meant for protection of Astana from flood waters and is being built as per the President's instruction. As is known the Yessil's left bank area of Astana is exposed to floods. Today no one excludes possible flood season on this territory. The volume of water while snow melting may reach 450 mln cubic meters here.
Provided that the National budget Commission approves our bid on additional KZT 4.8 bln, construction of the project will be completed in 2010, the Minister noted.
The length of the dam is 31.1 km. Its transfer capacity is 450 thousand sq m per second. The total cost of the project is KZT 13 bln.
