PM Bektenov checks N. Kazakhstan’s preparedness for spring flood

Deputy Governor of the North Kazakhstan region Kanat Duzelbayev reported to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov on the region’s preparedness for spring flood period, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Olzhas Bektenov was informed about the work of the Petropavlovsk hydro junction. Director of Kazvodkhoz Shugaip Ibatullin said that the facility is in a satisfactory condition and is operating in a routine mode.

The Prime Minister reminded of a tricky flood situation across the country. He stressed that nobody will be left in the lurch, and the state will assist all those affected by the disaster.

Kanat Duzelbayev assured that the flood situation in the region remains stable. 87 settlements prone to flooding are being monitored. To respond to the flood threat, the region has prepared 10 bus trucks for the transportation and evacuation of the population, six marsh buggies, seven boats, 78 water pumps, 370 water-proof suits, 21 tents with the capacity of more than 400 people and 242 evacuation centers.

Three districts are carrying out ice blasting works.

More than 1.8 million cubic meters of snow have been removed from the settlements. 167 canals and irrigation channels, and as many as 5,000 culverts have been cleaned.

This year, the region allocated 480 million tenge for emergency reserves. 801 million tenge is envisaged for emergency expenses, 175 million tenge – for the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, and 2.2 billion tenge will be spent on snow removal and road maintenance purposes.
