Over 70 bln tenge allocated to flood-affected families in Atyrau region
A total of 70 billion tenge for the flood-affected houses rehabilitation and new housing purchases has been allocated to residents of Kulsary town in the Atyrau region, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Kulsary is the administrative center of Zhylyoi district. In 2001, it was designated a single-industry town. As of April, the overflowing Zhem River waterlogged the town. This resulted in damage to residential houses, social facilities and SMEs.
According to the press service of the governor of the Atyrau region, Ruslan Zhumagaziyev, independent technical experts have concluded that 2,650 houses were damaged during the disaster.
“To date, 2,633 Kulsary ‘s residents, whose houses were damaged during the flood, have signed an agreement to obtain compensation. All claimants have been duly compensated. In addition, 1,453 residents whose houses were classified as emergency have received compensation as well. The compensation has been transferred to the residents' personal bank accounts. The residents are now eligible to purchase housing in cities and villages within the Atyrau region. A total of 70 billion tenge has been paid to residents of Kulsary for the purchase of residential properties or restoration of damaged housing. The compensation was paid from the local budget, as well as from contributions from large companies and sponsors,” Zhumagaziyev stated.
Furthermore, 215 entrepreneurs in the town of Kulsary submitted claims for compensation for flood-damaged facilities. Following the examination, the total compensation amounting to 2.1 billion tenge was paid out.
“It was determined that 1,082 heads of livestock and 532 heads of poultry owned by residents died during the flood. In this regard, 150 applications for compensation were received from residents. Accordingly, the residents were paid 212.6 million tenge in compensation for the dead cattle and poultry,” the spokesman added.
