Over 600 Sq km of oil slicks cover Black, Azov Seas

MOSCOW. July 31. KAZINFORM Oil slicks cover 613 square kilometers of the surface of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, the Russian-based SkanEks satellite Earth monitoring center reported on Tuesday, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

A total of 233 oil slicks, each covering between 0.1 and 60 square kilometers have been registered in the two water bodies. The largest slicks are located in the area between Russian and Ukrainian territorial waters, the report said.

Most of the slicks are due to ship navigation, while some of those registered in the Georgian sector of the Black Sea originate from natural springs on the sea bottom, the report said.
