Over 35,000 people displaced by conflict in northern Yemen, says UNHCR

GENEVA. September 2. KAZINFORM The UN refugee agency said on Tuesday it was "gravely concerned" about the situation in and around the northern Yemen city of Sa'ada, where more than 35,000 people have been displaced by fresh conflicts over the past three weeks; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

    "The situation is deteriorating by the day ... We are gravely concerned about the fate and well-being of the civilian population trapped inside the city," said Andrej Mahecic, spokesman of the Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

    According to UNHCR field staff, the latest fighting between government and rebel forces appears to be concentrated in the old Sa'ada City. They also report frequent air strikes in the wider Sa'ada City area; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
