Over 1,700 killed in road accidents countrywide in 9M2024
19,302 road accidents were registered in Kazakhstan from January to September 2024, with more than 26,700 people injured in them, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Records of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

1,754 people died in the road tragedies across Kazakhstan. Of them, 230 are underage children, 486 are women, and 1,268 are men.
Of those 24,949 injured, 6,488 are underage children, 10,937 are women, and 14,012 are men.
The majority of the accidents occurred in Almaty – 3,869, Almaty region – 2,118, and in Astana – 1,220. Zhambyl region is 4th – 1,181, and Shymkent is 5th with 1,122 accidents recorded.
Over 95% of the road accidents occured due to the fault of drivers, 451 of which were intoxicated.
More than 60% of fatal accidents took place on the highways.
Overspeeding, non-compliance with overtaking rules and driving tired are the three common causes of the road accidents, the Committee says.
