Outbreak of cholera in Zimbabwe takes heavy toll

NAIROBI. May 27. KAZINFORM. The number of people infected with cholera in Zimbabwe is about 100,000. More than 4,200 people died, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said in a statement Wednesday. Although the spread of the infection slowed down, the threat of cholera to the population remains, the ICRC said; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The epidemic was largely blamed on full collapse of the water supply and health service systems. It is the worst epidemic in Africa over the past 15 years, continuing since August, 2008.
