OTS says Kazakhstan’s Qurultay elections met national and international standards
An international observer mission from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) said Kazakhstan’s elections to the Qurultay were conducted ‘openly and transparently,’ with no serious violations identified during the voting process, Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
The mission, led by OTS Deputy Secretary General Nuru Guliyev, monitored the elections from August 20 to 24. It included representatives of the OTS Secretariat and central election bodies from member states, including Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Türkiye.
On election day, the mission split into two groups and visited 32 polling stations in Astana, including observing the opening of polling stations No. 194 and No. 228.
The mission did not identify any violations or any interference in the electoral process. All necessary administrative measures were taken to ensure citizens’ freedom of choice, Guliyev said at a briefing at the Center for Assistance to International Observers.
OTS observers also attended the vote count at polling station No. 39 in Astana. According to the mission, the counting of ballots and announcement of results were conducted in accordance with Kazakhstan’s national legislation.
The mission did not identify any serious violations that could have affected the election results, Guliyev said.
He added that voters and international observers were able to freely enter polling stations and move around without restrictions.
This ensured the transparency and accountability of the process, the head of the mission said.
The observers also reported that they had not recorded any unauthorized campaigning, campaign materials at polling stations or attempts to influence the work of election commissions or voters’ choices.
The international election observation mission in the Republic of Kazakhstan declares that the elections were conducted openly and transparently, taking into account national and international standards, Guliyev said.
He also congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on the successful conduct of the elections.
Earlier, Qazinform reported the CIS Observer Mission had declared Kazakhstan's Qurultay elections 'fair and open.'
