OSCE, Turkmenistan to strengthen fight against drug trafficking

The sides reached the agreement during a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov and OSCE in Europe Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, the Turkmen government reported.
Turkmenistan borders Afghanistan, which is, according to the U.N., the main supplier of drugs, including to Europe.
Brichambaut arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit to participate in a regional meeting of heads of OSCE missions in Central Asia, as well as an energy forum on strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia to ensure stable and reliable power in Eurasia.
The report notes that Brichambaut has expressed an interest in the implementation of new joint projects in such areas as energy security and disarmament.
Berdimuhammedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to strengthen relations with OSCE as a recognized and respected global structure, noting that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the summit planned by the organization in the second half of 2010, Kazinform refers to Trend News.
