OSCE Summit in Astana to define strategic dimensions of Organization development: President
In his January address to the OSCE Permanent Council the Kazakh President specified the conduction of the Summit as the main priority of the Kazakhstan's presidency in the Organization. The decision on holding of the Summit was unanimously adopted by the Foreign Ministers Council of the Organization member states on August 3. This proves the highest consideration of the international community of the successes of Kazakhstan people achieved during the years of independence.
"Kazakhstan promotes a thesis that the provision of European security is outside the continetal framework. Today the world community uses the notions of Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security. Proceeding to the OSCE presidency Kazakhstan declared its intention to strengthen the role of the Organization in countering new threats and challenges, firstly, terrorism and drug trafficking.
Activation of efforts on settlement the Afghan conflict, taking effective measures cornering the situation in Kyrgyzstan, strengthening of the role of the Organization in development of economic cooperation, solution of ecologic problems especially Aral problem are among the main priorities of Kazakhstan.
The OSCE member states are to develop joint efforts concerning current and new threats in all three dimensions at the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian spaces.
The Astana Summit is aimed to define strategic dimensions and "road map" of the OSCE development. The top-level meeting will allow adjusting the Organization to modern realms and demonstrate the world community successful evolution of the OSCE "from Helsinki to Astana".
The Head of the State noted that the fact of holding of one of the main world political events in Astana would not only promote the image of Kazakhstan in the world but also give impetus to socio-economic and democratic development of the country, strengthening the unity and patriotism of Kazakhstanis", the President said.
