OSCE proposes more economic, environmental cooperation with CSTO

SCOW. October 5. KAZINFORM /Narymbek Ismagulov/ Collective Security Treaty Organization has contributed to the implementation of common ideas proposed at the OSCE Summit in Astana in December 2010, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said in Moscow.

He noted that interaction between the two organizations intensified in recent years. Leaders of organizations have repeatedly taken part in the OSCE and CSTO meetings of various levels. Last year, for the first time in history the CSTO member Kazakhstan presided of the OSCE.

"Today, our cooperation becomes more productive. The OSCE and CSTO have a common interest in supporting the development of Afghanistan as a stable and prosperous nation. There is significant potential for cooperation in the development of Afghan security forces and its interaction with the Central Asian countries. Representatives of OSCE are taking part in anti-drug operation "Channel", he noted.

Mr. Zannier said that the CSTO has been playing a crucial role in ensuring security in the Asia-Pacific region, and this should be taken into consideration while discussing security in the entire Euro-Atlantic region, which stretches from Vancouver to Vladivostok.

"We would like to extend our cooperation in the fields of economy, environment and human dimension," he added.
