Ombudsman of Kazakhstan held talks with human rights organizations in Geneva

Shakirov held a series of bilateral meetings including with the head office of the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions K. Rose, head of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights V. Stefanov, as well as the heads of the Secretariat of the UN Committee on Human Rights, the UN Committee against torture and its Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture. The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening the promotion of the ombudsman institution, international and regional exchange of experience in the field of human rights, cooperation with the European Network of Ombudsmen, the UN Committee and OHCHR, improvement the legal instruments for the protection of human rights including the National Preventive Mechanism against torture. Following the meeting there has been achieved substantive agreement on strengthening collaboration of the Commissioner for Human Rights with his Geneva colleagues, as well as determining the future directions of partnership. In addition, at the invitation of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Shakirov took part in the Third International Forum on Business and Human Rights held under the auspices of the UN.
