The discovery was in the Aptian section of a well, also known as Santa Helena prospect, located in the BM-C-41 block, approximately 78 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, at a water depth of some 130 meters.

The announcement followed the discovery of hydrocarbons in the Albian section of the same well on Tuesday.

The drilling by the rig Ocean Ambassador was kicked off on June 18 and is still in progress. The well is expected to reach a total depth of some 3,500 meters.

According to OGX's General Executive Officer Paulo Mendonca, the OGX-15 well's drilling is of great significance to the company "as it demonstrated the connectivity of the Albian province toward the northern part of the block".

Mendonca said that pressure tests would be carried out to verify the connectivity between these reservoirs and the nearby wells; Kazinform cites China Daily.
