OIC emphasizes special role of Kazakhstan and N.Nazarbayev in movement toward nuclear-free world
A statement of Kazakh Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev was conveyed to the event participants. It describes the 40-year history of the polygon, the consequences of nuclear tests and the importance of President Nursultan Nazarbayev's decision on the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site, taken on August 29, 1991.
The OIC representatives and diplomats of 57 Organization's member-states were struck with terrible consequences of o nuclear weapons explosions. They paid tribute to courage of the Kazakhstani people. In their opinion, the Kazakh leader's decision on nuclear weapons renunciation is an unprecedented step and demonstration of understanding of enormous responsibility to the world community, which should became an example to all countries and world leaders. K.Saudabayev's appeal on joining efforts of Kazakhstan and international community on global nuclear threat reduction found approval of the OIC and its key members.
The Organization's Assistant Secretary General Abdullah Abdurrahman Alim who delivered a speech on behalf of OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu informed that the OIC emphasizes special role of Kazakhstan and President Nursultan Nazarbayev in promotion of the nuclear non-proliferation process.
