O.Suleimenov appeals for safe operation of nuclear plants

ATY. September 11. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ Kazakh poet, famous public figure Olzhas Suleimenov called the participants of the VII International conference on nuclear and radiation physics to strengthen research work in the sphere of nuclear plants security and their waste reduction.

The conference started its work on September 8. The scientists from 21 countries took part in it. The event is held under the auspices of the Islamic Development Bank.

O.Suleimeniov said: "This year is marked by the 20^th anniversary of the anti-nuclear movement Nevada-Semipalatinsk and 18^th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. The Kazakh President proposed to announce August 29 the World Day of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation. We hope that the UN General Assembly will support our nuclear-free world initiative."

Today the scientists made reports on prospects of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, on new preparations and technologies of nuclear medicine. Besides, there were discussed topical issues of ensuring the regime of nuclear weapons non-proliferation and other relevant issues.
