Number of suicides among adolescents doubled in Karaganda rgn

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - Each year, a lot of people take their own lives - more than the combined annual deaths from homicides and wars. Suicide is a leading cause of death among teenagers and adults under 35. Men are three times more likely to attempt suicide than women.

Unfortunately suicides among teenagers are increasing in the world. In Karaganda region a number of suicides among minors has doubled, regional prosecutor informed. "484 suicides including 173 fatal were registered in the region in 2013. Number of suicide attempts among minors reached 57, 19 of which were fatal. Compared with 2012, the number of suicides among teenagers increased almost two and a half times", announced the regional prosecutor Askar Sekishev at a meeting of the coordinating council. According to prosecutors, three teenagers have committed suicide this year. According to A. Sekishev, quarrels with parents, love quarrels or disagreements with contemporaries are reasons to commission of a suicide. Thus most often the minors, decided to commit suicide, try to poison with tablets. Internet plays not the last role in suicides among teenagers. Internet is full of information for anyone including ready-made instructions on how to escape from life, stories of those who have already tried it and even companions. Meanwhile, the attendees of the meeting of the coordinating council talked about the lack of sufficient suicide preventive measures.
